How Klooper is Becoming Plastic Neutral: A Step Towards Combating Global Plastic Pollution
| 2 Min read
In today’s world, plastic pollution has become a pressing environmental concern. As we witness the devastating impact of plastic waste on our ecosystems and oceans, responsible brands are stepping up to address this issue. Klooper is proud to announce its journey of becoming Recykal-certified Plastic Neutral. This ambitious initiative highlights Klooper’s commitment to sustainability.

Understanding Plastic Footprint

Plastic footprint refers to the amount of plastic waste generated by an individual or an organisation. It encompasses every stage of the product life cycle, from production to disposal. By acknowledging their plastic footprint, brands like Klooper can take targeted measures to minimise their plastic footprint through positive action.

What is Plastic Neutrality?

Plastic neutrality involves quantifying an organisation’s plastic footprint by assessing their plastic procurement in the packaging. By understanding the extent of their plastic generation, organisations can take targeted actions to offset their plastic waste generation, ultimately achieving plastic neutrality. It provides a medium to do so through supporting verified plastic offset projects. This holistic approach enables organisations to contribute to the restoration and conservation of the environment.

Introducing Recykal - Our Impact Partner

Recykal is a clean-tech startup that is formalising the circular economy in India. Aiming to redefine plastic waste as a valuable resource, Recykal’s Plastic Neutrality initiative empowers businesses to minimize their plastic footprint, creating opportunities for local waste workers and protecting our natural resources. Recykal’s tech-enabled waste management ecosystem offers traceability and transparency, ensuring that every piece of plastic waste is circled back to the economy.

Recykal’s Certification Process

Recykal’s Plastic Neutrality Solution helps brands offset their plastic footprint through a simple four-step process:

  1. Calculating the Footprint: The plastic footprint is the total mass of plastic produced or used by a brand during a specific time frame. We estimate this footprint by assessing the weight of various categories of plastic waste generated along the value chain.
  2. Planning the Offsetting Strategy:  Here, Recykal’s team outlines strategies to offset the brand’s plastic footprint via Impact Recovery Projects on plastic waste recovery and recycling.
  3. Balancing the Footprint: To balance its plastic footprint, a brand must invest in  collecting and recycling plastic waste from the environment. Recykal, on behalf of the brand, recovers and recycles plastic waste, maintaining complete transparency and traceability.
  4. Achieving Plastic Neutrality: After successfully implementing Impact Recovery projects, Recykal provides Impact Recovery Tokens to the brand and certifies it as Plastic Neutral for the specific time frame. This recognition is a testament to the brand’s commitment to environmental responsibility

What impact will Klooper make with Plastic Recovery?
